Educators have identified preschool reading and parent involvement as among the most important steps toward a child's success in school. In support of this proactive approach to help children achieve success in education and in life, Dolly Parton created her Imagination Library.
The Imagination Library was created by Dolly Parton in 1996 for the children in her hometown of Sevierville, Tenn. The cost of the program is $27 per child, per year, and is split evenly between each countywide program and the Governor's Books from Birth Foundation. A blue ribbon committee of childhood education experts selects the books for the Imagination Library.
The Governor's Books from Birth Foundation was created in May 2004 to serve as a catalyst and tangible resource to Tennesseans seeking to establish countywide Imagination Library programs. Since then, all of Tennessee's 95 counties have established their own Books from Birth program.
Rutherford Books from Birth was started in November 2005 as a partnership by several area organizations to serve the residents of Rutherford County.
